What’s it again

November 29th, 2008

Not a difficult one it but may keep you amused while I find something challenging.

What is it?

Look closely!

And the answer is… spooky bread dough!

So Nina was right even though she was 95% sure she was wrong.

There’s another shot of it in my food photos.

From memory it was the biga1 after a day or so of fermenting. I would have been making pane Pugliese or ciabatta.

  1. ie the starter dough for bread []

White chocolate, salt water taffy, glue, gum?

Nice ideas but not there yet. Salt water taffy??

You say it’s not a difficult one, but I have no idea. Even my nieces and nephew were guessing…Nikolas said it was a bird’s nest with mayo! And Sabrina said it was meringue!

I am 95% certain it is not dough, but that is my guess.

Yeah, I suppose salt water taffy was a bit of a “stretch”. ha ha!

Kari I wasn’t dissing your guess - I was asking what the heck is ’salt water taffy’. I get the taffy bit (nice pun!).

Nina: tell Sabrina I’ve had some meringue disasters in my time but I’ve never produced one quite like that! After we’ve done a hundred of these I suspect ‘bird’s nest with mayo’ will still be the most wonderful guess! I’m impressed. I think Nikolas has a bright future. I wonder what in.

Nina - feel the force. You’re 5% right!

Mark–salt water taffy is a candy that you can buy along the east coast boardwalks. They may have it on the west coast, too, I’m not sure. It’s just taffy, but comes in a ton of different flavors.

My mom makes some kind of candy that resembles your photo. It looks like a birds nest and she puts a candied cherry on top. I thought she uses white chocolate, but maybe I’m wrong.

All I know is…I’m getting hungry!

Oh, there was plenty of that stuff in “Alien” the movie!

Mark, are you ever going to tell us what this is??????

  • 10. Mark  |  December 11th, 2008 at 8:27 am

I did a few days ago Kari. You need to click on the ‘more’ link or the posts title to see the full post. Perhaps this is obscure but I wanted to keep it so that new readers can see the image without seeing the answer directly below it.

    Ohhhh. My apologies. :o)

Thanks for your guesses. I only wish it had been bird’s nest with mayo or salt water taffy!

Bill - weren’t you gong to do one? Anyone else?
